About this tool
Big PDFs bounce back from email and fail on upload forms. The usual cause is photos and scans inside the file. This tool finds those pictures and saves them at a smaller size, while the text and drawings stay exactly as they were.
Pick Light, Recommended or Strong. For a PDF that is only scanned pages, you can also turn every page into a picture for the smallest result. Everything happens in your browser, so private documents are never uploaded.
- Keeps text sharp and selectable
- Three levels, plus a mode for scans
- Shows the before and after size
- Nothing is uploaded
Frequently asked questions
Will compressing make my PDF look worse?
Only the photos inside it are recompressed. Text and drawings are untouched. Light keeps pictures very sharp, Strong trades some detail for the smallest file.
Why did my PDF not get much smaller?
If a PDF is mostly text, or its pictures are already small, there is little to save. For a scanned document, tick "Turn every page into a picture" for a much bigger saving.
How do I get a PDF under 1 MB or 2 MB?
Try Recommended first, then Strong. If it is still too big, split the file into parts with the Split PDF tool.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The work happens inside your browser, so the file never leaves your device.
