About this tool
Before you share a document, cover the names, account numbers or addresses that should stay private. Drag a black box over each one.
A black rectangle on its own can be lifted off in many programs, with the text still underneath. This tool saves every redacted page as a picture with the boxes burned in, so what is hidden is really gone. Nothing is uploaded.
- Content under the boxes is removed for good
- Pages with redactions become pictures
- Pages without boxes stay as they were
- Nothing is uploaded
Frequently asked questions
Is a black box enough to hide text?
Not always. A plain box can be removed, revealing the text. Here, pages with boxes are turned into pictures, so the hidden text no longer exists in the file.
Can I still select text on redacted pages?
No. Redacted pages become pictures. Pages you did not redact keep their selectable text.
Can I undo a redaction after saving?
No, so keep your original file. The saved copy cannot be restored.
Does it find words automatically?
Not yet. You draw the boxes yourself, so you stay in control of what is hidden.
