Frequently asked questions
How are words counted?
A word is any run of characters separated by spaces or line breaks. Hyphenated words such as "well-known" count as one word.
Are spaces included in the character count?
Both numbers are shown: characters with spaces and characters without spaces, so you can use whichever your task needs.
How is reading time worked out?
Reading time assumes about 225 words a minute, and speaking time about 130 words a minute. Real speeds vary from person to person.
Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
No. Counting happens in your browser and the text is never sent to a server.
