About this tool

Pull the words out of a PDF so you can paste them anywhere: an email, a document, a translation tool. Choose all pages or a few, and keep or drop the page separators.

This reads the text that is stored in the PDF. If the PDF is a scan made of pictures, there is no text to read and the tool will tell you so. Nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Why did it find no text?

The PDF is probably a scan: each page is a picture of text. Reading it needs OCR, which this tool does not do.

Does it keep the layout?

It keeps the reading order and line breaks, but not columns, tables or fonts.

Can I extract text from only one page?

Yes. Type the page number in the "Pages" box.

Does it work with Sinhala or Tamil text?

It extracts whatever text is stored in the file. Some PDFs store non-Latin text in a way that does not copy cleanly; that comes from how the PDF was made.
